In Western societies, people spend most of their waking hours indoors, exposing themselves to virtually no sunlight. Natural sunlight contains all visible and non-visible spectral characteristics of light. Both play key roles in human health and well-being. In this particular context, the non-visible near-infrared light has been shown to be beneficial for a wide range of conditions. In the present study, we investigated the effects of morning exposure to near-infrared light five days per week for four consecutive weeks in a group (n = 56) of healthy individuals with mild sleep complaints. We observed consistent positive effects on several aspects of well-being and health but not on sleep or circadian rhythms. The benefits were only visible in the winter months, when sufficient exposure to sunlight is more challenging. The present study investigated rather low-energy light levels, which would allow for relatively easy incorporation of such technology into a household or personal appliances. "AbstractBoth sun exposure and serum vitamin D levels have been associated with lower risks of all-cause mortality and chronic age-related diseases, e.g., cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, in epidemiological studies. These associations have mainly been ascribed to beneficial effects of vitamin D. However, a vast body of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and Mendelian randomization studies have failed to confirm any major health benefits from vitamin D supplementation. In this review, we present tentative evidence showing that red and near-infrared light, both being present in sunlight, could explain the associations between sunlight exposure and better health status. Body irradiation with red and near-infrared light, usually termed as photobiomodulation (PBM), has demonstrated beneficial effects in animal models of chronic diseases. Beyond this, preliminary evidence from RCTs suggest potential clinical benefit from PBM for chronic diseases. Sessions should be 3x a week, no more frequent than every other day (going more won't give any extra benefits and may build up your resistance to red light) for the first 1-3 months. After that treatments should be one time weekly to maintain! Red light at 633 nanometers has a long enough wavelength to penetrate the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) and reach the dermis (the middle layer of the skin). This enables it to reach fibroblasts, special types of cells that sit beneath the skin and manufacture collagen – a protein that helps tighten and firm the skin and heal wounds. Red light does this by acting on the mitochondria inside fibroblasts. Mitochondria are small organelles that exist inside most of the cells in your body. They produce the cell’s energy by absorbing oxygen and other materials, as well as by producing a molecule called ATP. Exposing the mitochondria to red light at 633nm causes a number of changes in mitochondria, particularly, it increases the mitochondrial membrane potential, allowing the mitochondria to receive signals faster. Red light also causes an increase in the production of ATP. Mitochondria produce ATP by a process called the “electron transport chain.” One enzyme involved in that process is ‘cytochrome c oxidase.’ Cytochrome c oxidase is also a “chromophore”; i.e, a molecule that responds to the presence of light. Since cytochrome c oxidase is a necessary part in making cellular energy, and since it is stimulated by the presence of red light at 633nm, it will respond by increasing the production of cellular energy. If your event is on a Saturday, you will want to spray on a Thursday. That means your prep day is Wednesday!!!!AVOID Any product on your skin after your prep shower. Moisturizers, Perfumes, Oils, Makeup can all prevent your spray from absorbing correctly. Same thing for shaving! Those bars of stuff on razors are huge problem! They create a shield at making sprays just fall off skin!! We suggest only using products before/during/after your spray that are made for sprays! Read below for our favorite products and how to use them in your routine for the best results! |
